why techno..

Music has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember!
It all started around 1979 at the age of six with a gift of a
Minett cassette recorder. In the 80s, the programs Hit Globus,
Maxi Stunde and Duett on the GDR cult station DT 64 became
the starting points for the first recordings on tape.
On Saturdays, „Hit Globus“ provided a brief overview of the latest
latest and most current titles from all over the world. With a bit of luck, you could
the desired tracks as maxi versions the next day.

He quickly developed a preference for groovy and electronic music.
Only the loudspeaker on the Minett recorder slowly reached its limits and was
and was replaced by the connection of a larger loudspeaker.
The cassettes had to be bought on sale for a whopping 30 GDR marks.
Everything good that the 80s had to offer was captured on tape.
With the help of a second recorder and a dubbing cable, it was possible to
the best parts of a track one after the other and thus create your first
and create your own little mixes.
With the resulting mixes and the clearly audible transitions,
I must have driven my listeners pretty close to madness at first.

At the turnaround time, we went to our first disco at the age of 15.
Artists and tracks that we liked at that time were
were „King Bee – Back by Dope Demand“ and „Double Trouble feat.
Rebel MC – Street Tuff“.

People then danced the night away in the „Ostragehege“ disco tent, Hellerau and the „Eule“.
Dancing became very important and continued to develop.
One day we were invited to the Star Club Dresden for a concert by Westbam.
by Westbam. Westbam…? I don’t know him, I’ll come with you.
We set off in an old Lada with a fat sound.
None of us had any idea what to expect, but it was supposed to be
be announced.
All I saw was smoke, strobe lights and green glow sticks.
I quickly realized that the use of sunglasses also made sense at night
makes sense.
A short time later, techno, hip hop and dance were all playing in our favor.
We also attended other Westbam parties in the „Mensa Freiberg“.
A decisive break and a turning point came with „The Prodigy“.

They brought dancing back to the fore.
We literally soaked up the track „Out of Space“ and tried to internalize
the dance skills and get them on the dancefloor.
This was the time when only techno and house music mattered to us.

Furthermore, we also had the desire to play
to get the popular tracks into mix form with turntables.
So two Technics turntables and a mixer were at the top of my wish list.
I was able to fulfill this wish a long time later.

I found the right record store in Dresden on „Bürgerstraße“.
They had maxis by KLF, LFO and many more.
I then practiced adjusting the tracks within the walls of my home.

My friend and later producer colleague Henri Schreiber began his first steps
towards music production at this time.
With an Amiga computer, the Oktalizer program and a
2MB external hard disk, he created his first productions.
I found this very interesting, but at that time I just wanted to play music.

Every now and then I visited my friend and watched him produce music.
Over time, I got the urge to try it myself.
As my friend Henri tended to produce something TB 303-heavy and in the direction of trance.
I decided to produce my own music for the time being.
My preference was rather the metallic deep chords and the ranges
125-130 BPM.
I decided to go to Berlin and buy my first music machine.
It was a Novation Bass Station. Much poorer in money and nerves
i had a system consisting of a computer, midi interface and synthesizer halfway running.
The good times of partying and music production began.

Again and again productions together with my friend Henri.
A first joint production that we both liked and that sounded good in the studio,
we decided to test it live with an audience.
We then analyzed the track further: does it have the right punch?
are the highs nice and soft and transparent, is the ratio
of kick to bassline,
does every instrument have the right volume and is the effect part right?
How does the structure look, does the drop have the desired build-up factor?
factor or is the break too long and, most importantly, how does the dancing
dancing audience reacts.

If people join you on the dance floor to dance
dance floor should definitely be a positive sign.
With a more commercial project, we then went on a small
Germany wide club tour.
We had a lot of unforgettable fun ourselves at events like Love Parade,
Mayday and many other parties at Tresor, Fabrik Dresden, Base and many more.

Years later, the time had come and the first record deal was in
bag and bag. It was indescribable to hold your first vinyl in your
hands. CDs and compilations were also released with our
tracks. Producing music became more and more important.

The ultimate goal, however, was to create the supreme discipline, a radio play on FM radio.
This step always seemed unattainable. A dream until that day.
As on every weekend at that time, around 10 p.m. was the time to get dressed up for the party night.
At this time, a small radio was playing in the bathroom a small radio was tuned to Radio Energie.
From 10 p.m. onwards a new program started.
When the first piece of music I heard on the program was a I was almost blown away.

I immediately called my friend and producer colleague Henri Schreiber to tell him about it.
He also got to hear the last part of the track.
This was of course duly celebrated during the party night.
The following weekend, of course, we listened to this program again.

This time I was in the car when our track came on the radio at exactly the same time
was playing on the radio. The track was playing on the car radio and we celebrated in style.

Many more releases on vinyl and CD followed in the years that followed.
Music and great parties were the purpose of life at that time.
My friend and producer colleague Henri Schreiber devoted himself
more and more to photography in the following years.

I never let go of producing electronic music and trying out new sound syntheses.
Artists like Rodriguez Jr, Andhim, Jonas Saalbach,
Robert Babicz and Super Flu inspired my music creation again and again.

Whereby it was always important for me to create my own sound.
In 2019 I decided to start my solo project Awiy Disco.
With Tech House and Deep House as the main style direction
fat sound and good vibes should be guaranteed!!! Groove on!!!
House music forever!!!
